Alexis Solis
I train gymnastics M,T,W,TH,F 2 hours each day. I swim T,TH 1 hour and...finally I train Freerunning and my FSP on Saturdays. I'd rest completely on Sundays. Is this too much? I'm worried that in time, I could get overtrained.
Joshua Naterman
It depends on how hard you are working in each practice. More than anything, you need tons of food and sleep. These questions just don't have enough information in them for us to say anything. You may as well ask "The sky is grey. Is that bad?" I mean, what is bad, anyways? What are your practices like? What's the strength work? What's the skill work? How much rest is there? Do you eat snacks? All this and whatever else is important information.
JL
You can always just do it and see what happens. Overtraining to a given stimulus is an individual thing. If you get consistently better, stronger, and more motivated, then it is good. If you get weaker and less motivated, then it is too much. One loophole that exist in this method is consistently upping volume and intensity no matter what, and without a deload phase to reduce fatigue. I have found that to be disasterous. Meaning, lets say you test your max at bench, and it is 200 lbs. You start by doing 100 lbs. for 10 reps x 3 sets about three times per week with the intention of upping the weight for the works sets by 5 lbs. each workout. You will make good strength gains for a while, but then you will reach a wall where the increases in intensity are greater than your capacity. If you continue to push no matter what, eventually, you will over reach and overtrain. I have goofed in a similar manner like this three times. I think two of the three times it involved cranking up the volume too often when working at my 2 rep max before solidifying strength gains. I'm guessing I'll get around 5-7 hours a day. In the gym we train lots of strength on T,TH, and Fridays. On M,W, we train skills and LESS strength, BUT we do train a little strength. I also swim for one hour on Mondays and Thursdays after my gymnastics class. I'd rest on Saturdays and Sundays. Every once in a while (like once or twice a month) I'd train Freerunning on Saturdays).I don't know what else could be important information, if I'm missing something, please let me know!
