The Road to Success: It’s Only a Matter of Time
Transforming into the strongest, healthiest version of yourself can seem hard! I mean, where do you even begin? If you ask ten people what the most important feature of a training program is, you are likely to get ten different answers. Some might argue that the volume of your workouts is most essential while others will insist that intensity is the primary factor.
Even still, others will place recovery, form, or technique as the most important aspect. While an argument can be made for each of these, none of them will yield results without the addition of an often-forgotten training variable—time. Without enough time spent committed to any change in your workout routine, you will never see the results of your hard work!

Create the Right Mindset!
We all want to be successful in our workouts and reach our physical goals, but to do it, we need to take gradual, consistent steps on the path towards long-term growth. By prioritizing quality and mastery of each exercise, you will help you ensure the success of your training. If you’ve ever listened to a Tim Ferris podcast with Coach Christopher Sommer, you’ve probably heard him compare this shift in mindset to the difference in mentality between a child and an adult, or the difference between an immature and a mature athlete.
Just as a child wants things right away, an immature athlete sometimes forgets that it takes hard work, discipline, and commitment to achieve physical goals. A young child is likely to give up and shift attention to something new when their goals are not reached in a short period of time. As a person matures into an adult, however, they are more likely to realize the potential benefits of focusing on one task for longer periods of time, even if it does require significant amounts of energy. Similarly, as we transition our mindset to that of a mature athlete and acknowledge that any change requires time to be effective, we will be able to take the gradual and consistent steps needed to reach our physical goals.
Reaching your goals will take honest amounts of time, energy, and genuine effort, but the results that you achieve with consistency and patience are long-lasting and truly yours to claim. Once we rise above the culture of immediate gratification and start measuring our success in terms of months and years, instead of days and weeks, we will begin to see true change in our physical fitness. Change takes time, consistency, and patience, but the rewards are worth the wait!
Stick to Your Goals!
If you spend any time browsing through the GymnasticBodies Forum, you will find numerous examples of this consistent, patient change over long periods of time. Many students have taken their time, stuck to their training schedule, and slowly but surely added rep after rep until they are able to complete all the sets required for their workout. While this might seem meticulous, tedious, and time-consuming, the payoff is monumental!
This can be seen time and time again by athletes working to increase their flexibility. If your body is stiff and inflexible from years spent sitting at a desk, it is not reasonable to expect dramatic changes from one day to the next. Your body requires time for the fascia, musculature, and nervous system to adapt to its new range of motion and feel comfortable in new positions. Many adults who try a stretch for the first time might decide that it is too uncomfortable and decide it isn’t for them, but don’t give up! Instead, make a commitment to gradually chip away at the work that needs to be done in order to get yourself to where you want to be!
Give Yourself a Nutritional Boost!
In addition to being patient and consistent in your training, maintaining healthy nutrition habits will give you the energy boost you need to reach your physical goals. If you look at fitness magazine covers, the most common words you will see are “lose fat,” “flat abs,” “slim down,” and “drop 10 lbs.” While these magazines will have you convinced that you can do all these things in 10 days with minimal effort, that is just simply not how the human body works.
Improving your physical health through nutrition takes time, patience, and consistency. Our Thrive nutrition course will help you to make long-term nutrition habits that will keep you feeling great for years to come. Not only will it help you to look, feel, and perform better, it will also help you to develop new behaviors to maintain your results for a lifetime.
