Guest marktb68
Dan Duchaine suggested at one time to take 5 days complete rest every month as you will grow better. What do you think about this recommendation Coach?Mark
John Sapinoso
is this for enhanced growth or enhanced strength gains?either way i think rest can always do a body good.
Shaf
Depends on a lot of things.Duchaine was specifically talking about weight training and bodybuilding (let's not forget that Duchaine was a bodybuilding chemist and diet man, not a strength coach, despite his "Body Contract" workout). There are many methods that could be useful for deloading an athlete, including reduced volume, reduced intensity, active rest and complete rest. It's very individual. If you find yourself getting injured as you extend a program past 4-6 weeks, then maybe it's a good idea for you. One thing that's served me well is that after I hit a lifetime PR in a 1RM lift, I call it a day, since I've already pushed myself further than I'd ever gone before. This is somewhat counterintuitive, since pushing forward and getting fired up to hit more PRs is what you really want to do.
