Dominik Zbogar
For those of you who combine the WODs with other training, do you prefer to centre the other training movements around the same muscles as those involved in the WOD or focus on muscles not used in the WOD. For example, follow a WOD of ringwork with upper body focused lifts or with lower body lifts. One would hit the upper body hard, the other would give you more of a full body workout. A third option would be having a set of routines and not caring how they line up with the WODs. A 4th option would be just the WOD...I definitely have found on a couple occasions there is no way I would like to finish the WOD by doing more exercises for the same muscle... the other week I modified one that involved a sled drag, deck squats, and senders- I did a stationary bike sprint for 20s, deck squats, and jumped over a bench 10x for 4 sets. I was done.
Walt Peacock
I'm pretty lost man. I'm not sure what is better. I think I am going to try to utilize a workout that was shared in a previous post in this same section.
Blairbob
Hey Domz, I started thinking about this here: http://gymnasticbodies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1733 and JasonMStein came up with a good idea of making a few base workouts in case the WOD was only a pushing or pulling or leg centric WOD ( like todays 10m of ring HS which I actually thought about doing some pull work to but figured DL would be good enough to paired to ). Typically, I won't work the same muscles as that will just turn into hypertrophy work and typically dumb down the intensity of the movements. Sometimes I'll throw in a small CF WOD or a Tabata metcon WOD. I meant to start a thread on it but just didn't get around to it last nite or this morning. I'll see about making up base templates tomorrow morning/afternoon before I leave for coaching. Typically I am scheduling to do heavy BS and heavy DL 1x a week with DL being on M/Tu and BS being on Th/F. I'm planning to do this besides what ever is done but might skip it if the WOD is similar stuff or. When I add in Olympic Lifting work again I'll probably have to find a place for this as well.
