Just had my first ever protein shake.  Not gonna lie, it was pretty gnarly.

Anyone have any good suggestions on how to make them less not good?

Haha, what flavour? I have tried different ones but vanilla seems to be the only one I can drink.

A little bit of milk and ice cream makes it yummy.

Yeah what flavour?

My girlfriend couldn't finish hers the other day so I said I'll finish it (no waste here!)... well it didn't make it all the way down and ended up on the kitchen floor. It was terrible, had this weird artificial sweetener taste to it. It was chocolate, but so is the protein powder I use. The difference is in how they give it that chocolate flavour I suppose. The protein I use is just WPC, natural cocoa and stevia - in that order. Her protein has 3 sweeteners (some artificial) and a whole heap of other additives like vitamins and extracts.

In saying that you kind of get used to the taste after a while. I  mix mine with water and have no troubles drinking it. Tried water + cookies and cream protein and it was disgusting. I have a feeling with milk it would have been fine. Unflavoured Soy Protein with water is almost undrinkable but I got away with it for a while.

Try changing the ratio of liquid to protein. Sometimes 250ml of milk/water just isn't enough to dilute the taste of the protein. I usually use 500ml.

I probably sound like a broken record, but True Nutrition sells the only protein powder that I can drink in water and NOT have to choke down. I drink my milk protein powder in water which tastes like cloudly water, and I've never had a problem with it. Whey usually goes in a little bit of tea because I like it that way, but neither taste anywhere as bad as other protein powder brands. No flavor, no sweetening, tastes like blank powder. I love it.

I have also found that some protein brands/flavours work best with water while others are best with milk. You can also try EAA powder instead.

Well, diluting it more really didn't help.  I just had more protein shake to drink...

That can happen... I drink 5ml of Chlorophyll as a shot followed by two glasses of water as I can't stomach drinking 2 glasses of green spearmint flavoured water. Protein shots aren't really an option unless you want it to be a thick paste!

Are you drinking it room temp or cold? I find the colder these drinks are the less I taste them.

Old thread, and don't care.

Put the powder in last before mixing.

Use the one with the most amount of calories per serving.

The body uses calories for energy to make repairs not grams of protein. Plus you will get some amount of protein from any food that has a cellular wall.

Nope, I was just browsing the forum and happened to leave one reply in two separate threads on protein shakes.
