simontrains
Hi all. I've had wrist problems for many months now, and after consulting a doctor they said I may need some physio work. The pain is across the area surrounding the wrist bone and I can't do curls or anything like it. Pushups with fingers facing my feet are an exercise that I can't do due to awkwardness and pain. Would a rice bucket be helpful for the rehab process? My wrists are fairly flexible even before the injury and I can still do eg planche work, just certain movements irritate my wrist pain (especially twisty movements). I am proposing buying some rice and a bucket and working small movements to get some strength back into the wrist, with the potential to build up grip strength but also to assist the wrist's recovery with light twist-and-grab movements. Is this a good idea? Simon
FREDERIC DUPONT
I'd say yes, it is a good idea; however, why don't you ask your doctor?
Mikkel Ravn
Hi, I can't tell you anything specific about the wrist, but the following progression may help in general terms: Get proper diagnostics: Figure out exactly what is causing the pain, read up on the anatomy involved, learn about the bio-mechanics. Rest: Stop doing whatever is causing you pain for a month, perhaps two. Ease back into activity. Have a plan for how you're going to reintroduce loading of the area. Don't do extra work at random, just because the wrist suddenly feels good. If tendonitis / tendonosis is the cause, it is in my experience beneficial to work the injured area to the extent that a very slight tenderness is felt afterwards (~1 or 2 on a scale of 10), but only after having rested the area completely for 4-6 weeks. This means that inflammation is working to revert the chronic scar tissue that was formed with the injury. PS: Not a doctor, discretion is advised
lerkevei
I'd say try it and see if it helps!I've had wrist issues/pain since I started hand-balancing around 1 year ago, couldn't handle doing it everyday...Until I bought some rice and a bucket!! For me it made a huge difference, I use it as a recovery tool every other day 5-10 minutesand it has helped my wrists heaps - I am now perfectly fine doing handstand work 6/7 days a week!NOTE: Naturally I have been doing other prehab/rehab wrist exercisesbefore & after I discovered the rice bucket (but I still attribute most of the "success" to the rice bucket therapy).
