Jon Douglas
More often than not I would categorically say don't grease the groove with straight arm work unless you are 110% sure you can handle it. If you need to ask, you are probably going to waste more time than you save over a split when all's said and done. The rest of the time I would say yes, it works very well, but;1. it's also easy to overdo it (especially with something like planche)2. it's very easy to get blase and let your form suffer doing short sets, it requires full concentration each time3. it doesn't work (at least for me) if I try it with more than one movement, *maybe* 2 if they're completely unrelated (like press to HS and natural leg curl unrelated) Personally I wouldn't want to be greasing the groove on hard planche work until I was practically falling asleep in tuck/adv tuck and needed to shake something up. Douglas Wadle
I have similar feedback to jon. I'd recommend only one exercise at a time. It is very helpful to me if I'm stuck on an area or have something i want to increase volume on substantially. It does put you at risk of overtraining, but I like it tremendously. remember, it's supposed to be easy each time you do it. If you're struggling to do it, it's not "greasing the groove". for instance, if i'm greasing the groove with pull ups and i can presently do 5 or 6, i can probably easily do 2 pull ups almost hourly through the day and have done 20 or 30 by the end of the day. If i try to 3 at a time, by mid-day i may find my form suffering or starting to have trouble getting all 3 in. Then i am going to be overtraining and not making the progress i'm looking for. Just remember, pavel tsatsouline, who i believe came up with this concept, strictly says only 1 exercise at a time. have fun!
Jurre
I really like this but as been said it can easily lead to overtraining. I do it for front lever work and do (advanced) tuck front lever for a couple of seconds just to get the feel of retracting the scapula. I used to do this with advanced tuck and do it close to failure which resultated in my straining my back due to overtraining so be carefull about that. If done correct it can be very benificial. In my opinion atleast.
