palmcron
Hi,I wonder how to go about learning the airflare, or better, how to progress to it.ronin11cs suggests that flares/circles aren't a prerequisite (http://gymnasticbodies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=804&p=11471#p11471), so I wonder what might be a good progression from a gymnastics-perspective?The footage of Morgan Hamm learning it suggests, he just started doing it from a handstand position (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggmF21AVXic), but he already had many other movements in his repertoire, I guess What I'm looking for would be something like "from zero to airflare"I don't know, if there are people around here, who can do the airflare or practice it? Maybe some of the more experienced guys can share how they would go about it
sasquatch
I don't think they really teach airflares in gymnastics.Maybe Morgan will be a coach someday and teach it.
Spanyard
As a bboy, I recomend learning first another moves as flares or windmills before trying airflares. Also a solid handstand will help and some skills on one handed handstands in both hands will be fine too. Anyway, airflares are more about orientation on the space and a very nice control of ur body than raw strenght, althougth strenght helps too
ronin11cs
well the airflare is a very hard move because there are a lot of things you must focus on!but the flare is not necessary for that..it would be good for you if you can do windmills and also a move we call 90s in Breakin (its a spin on your hand while you are in handstand) you dont need the spin , but you need the entrance!i can write a tutorial if you want 4 this move , but watching videos (e.g. bboy punischer) helps a lot more! there are also enough tuts on youtube from gambler crew etc.dont practise like hamm does in his vid...i recommend you to start on your elbows first!elbow twists are more easy to twist but harder to continue ... its just for understanding the motion of the legs and twisting the hips! knee down and then swing into the move on your elbows!ok just to say! you have my word that you dont need flares or circles for the airtwist! the motion is different if you dont want to start with it directly than practice mills and swipes (search on youtube) these movements will help to get it faster!there is also a move calles "halo" in breakin , just watch some vids .. the legmovement is nearly the same when you do airtwists (airflares) -> same
