Mouclier Victor
Hi all ! I ask this question because robert polonski, in this video, show how he train for planche and he has done more bent arm than straight arms exercises, so is this efficient ?This guy has a 30 sec straddle planche and a really strong full planche too. <----------- it's at 7:00 Edited June 21, 2014 by Bosco
Petr Dlabac
He is strong at planche because of his straight arm training, his bent arm training helps him with bent arm moves. Together it keeps him pretty strong as is also our goal.
Alessandro Mainente
there is no bent arms strength that provides the same amount of strength gain and body preparation as straight arms strength. so following the same idea of the video, you can develop iron cross doing bent arms cross pullout? yes you will develop the strength for bent arms pull out until you will lock the arms. at this moment your joints will broken down.it's not about build strength , it's about prepare your body to accepts the final level of leverage. and approach bent arms --> straight arms it's not the best way.
Mouclier Victor
Thank for the replies guys ! So, Would this routine be better if i replace the HSPUs by Press handstands ?
Julian Aldag
It looks like he trains both. So, Would this routine be better if i replace the HSPUs by Press handstands ? No, you should work the progressions for both.
Mouclier Victor
It looks like he trains both. By "Both" you mean SAS and BAS ?If it's the cas :i didn't said that he only train BAS i've said that he trained more BAS than SAS (otherwise his planche lean) Edited June 26, 2014 by Bosco
Julian Aldag
What is your end goal? A planche?
Mouclier Victor
A planche Hold, i don't really care about planche push ups, but if that can faster my progress i would go for it too.
Julian Aldag
Either way, you should be able to do both HSPU and Press to handstand before seriously working planche. Those skills are much easier than planche will create a stronger base to ready the body for planche training.
Mouclier Victor
I'm already quite good at free HSPUs but i can't press at all. Otherwise, i'm quite close to a straddle PL. Anyways thanks you very much for your advice !
Julian Aldag
No worries. I would strongly consider to start training Press to handstands. You should really think of it as a prerequisite. Also, once you have the straddle Planche, you can then mix it in with planche press to HS etc. Planche is much cooler when you can do something with it
Mouclier Victor
You're right, but i've read by coach sommer that press hs are very different of planche because it's scapula elevation vs scapula protraction, so i think it's essential to pratice PL leans while learning the press. What do you think ?
Julian Aldag
This is true. I just feel that being able to planche without Press to handstand is like running without learning to walk. The more we talk about it, the more I feel you should just buy the foundation series. All the planche progressions are in there.
Mouclier Victor
I'm gonna buy it. Otherwise nobody has really answer to my question which is : are bent arm exercises required to achieve a straight arm position ?
Christian Sørlie
They go together. Bent arm strength lays a foundation to start training straight arm strength. Straight arm strength is alot bicep tendon strengthening so it need to follow special progressions to avoid injury. But yes, get foundation, it's the best way to get the progressions and the mobility.
