Erik Sjolin
I have a question about back levers. Should the hands be palm up, or palm down? I've been doing it palm up for the last little while, and there has been far more strain on my elbows than when I practice the front lever (palm down). Blairbob
Palm down. That elbow strain even with palms up is to be expected. Take your time.
Erik Sjolin
I tried the palms down way yesterday during my usual regement, but almost immediately after I finsihed, everything below my shoulders (save for my thumb, index and middle fingers) went completely numb, and I didn't regain any feeling in them for another few hours. Is it possible that I just accidentally stretched a tendon in my upper arms beyond it's limit or pinched a vein for a few seconds to make it do this? My left arm now feels completely normal, but my upper right arm still feels weird. I'm a little apprehensive to start my usual training again until it feels normal.Erik
Blairbob
It is adviseable to not simply use the same progression but to start from scratch when using this change of grip. It can be that much more intense on the elbows and shoulders. Start off as a precaution doing negative back levers in a tight tuck position and move on from there. Rolf Nilsen
Blairbob, why should the back lever be done with the palms down? Is there any other reason then the added strain and hence strength gains + flexibility?
Blairbob
It has to do this preparing the elbows for Iron Cross and other advanced rings strength ( maltese, invert cross HS )
