Neil Gillies
G'day, I recently watched the above linked video on YouTube about Ed Viesturs, the first American to climb all 14 of the world's 8000m peaks As well as being an interesting presentation in its own right, what struck me was how similar his approach to achieving his goal was to what Coach Sommer preaches with regards to GST, namely: 1. Be patient and climb the mountain on its terms (analogous to working with your body)2. Do it with good style and good form3. Be conservative and work within your own limits and an acceptable level of risk (analogous to don't get injured by pushing too hard) 4. Enjoy the journey5. Don't take shortcuts6. Have a long term plan What was the ultimate outcome of following these rules? Success where so many before had failed. Hopefully a few of you find it interesting and inspiring.
