Muscle Twitching

Some more information will help Ricardo.

Which muscles have you experienced the twitching in, how often, how intense?

Fasciculation is the term used to describe involuntary contractions of small numbers of muscle fibres. These are very different to cramps and are visible as small ripples under the skin (likened to what a bag of worms would like like).

I know all about these as I have had benign fasciculations in my calves since 2003. For me they started at a very stressful time, exams, relationship break up etc. At that time I was studying pathology amongst other things and I scared the crap out of myself worrying I had some neurological condition! Worrying about it made it worse.

Now I only really notice them if I am very tired or the day after a serious workout. Mineral levels will definitely play a role, magnesium depletion will set them off and many factors can contribute to that, workouts, alcohol and even diarrhoea.

Wes,

In the event you cannot or choose not to find me on FB I'll reply here aswell.. but I could go into more detail on FB. Its just easier for me :-)

Anyhow, it started approximately 4 months ago in my left scapula.  I had twitching in my scapula on and off for a week or so.

Googled it, panic attack after all the scary shit you read.  After doctor visits, tests etc. Nothing showed up but it spread throughout my body.

Off and on-- everyday pretty much since it started. Usually its just a handful of twitches randomly throughout my body BUT I do notice if I'm calm and on my game (diet, rest, nutrition ) its almost to nothing.

Its funny you mentioned how it started for you because it was the same thing for me.

I train MMA, plus gymnastic bodies stuff which was new to me (lots of CNS stress) and emotional shit going on and BAM it hit me. Plus I've always been somewhat of an anxious, hyper, controlling kind.

So yeah, that's my story. :-)

The first 2 weeks were torture-- some of the worst days of my life.

Cheers!

p.s. Any thoughts?

Hey Wes,

Any chance you could contact me directly on my FB account?   Sorry for the delay in response-- this was filtered in my gmail.

I wish this forum could move to a FB closed group-- its much more efficient.

Hey Ricardo,

Thank you for sharing your personal experiences here on this forum. I can relate to what you have said EXACTLY as the same thought processes whizzed around my head for at least 6 months but more likely a year. When I have some more time later I will write a bit here about my experience of fasciculations also as I have no doubt there will be others who have or will experience this kind of thing besides us and will find comfort in knowing it's not necessarily a sign of the doom and ill health.

I get twitches every now and then, and it is definitely linked to stress and magnesium deficiency.  I've had them in my face (near my eyes), legs, arms and torso.  I've had them ever since I was a kid, so I never thought they were anything to be worried about.

The incidents just about eliminated themselves when I started using a mesh filter for my coffee rather than paper.  I would drink the fine grounds in the bottom of my cup.  Coffee tends to have decent amounts of magnesium and the sludge just boosted my intake.

Actually it would not be more efficient.

As a closed fb group, it would be impossible to sort, categorize and search our almost 200,000 posts on GST.

Yours in Fitness,

On the subject of muscle twitching:

During a long static holds like, FL/PE13 or RC/PE6, is the twitching muscle fibre(s) just a phyiscal reaction of the body recruiting more muscle to complete the task?
