Alessandro Mainente Posted March 28, 2017 Share Posted March 28, 2017 Hi Edwin, the problem it is that you are trying to do slowly what should be done quickly. the hurdle must precede the roundoff. too many factors are involved, do you have a decent cartwheel? do you have handstand? how is your hurdle? Alexander Egebak Posted March 30, 2017 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I agree with Alessandro. Your form is good, your tempo is not. Part of this skill is to be able to perform it fast with a runup. Doing it slowly will require significant shoulder strength to be able to shrug/elevate your shoulders to essentially create a "hovering phase" (you still rest on one hand instead of pushing your entire body off the floor). That strength you do not possess, but if you are able to translate the horizontal speed into rotational speed from your runup the shoulder shrug will most likely come by itself. So, go out there and get some speed. If it is still too hard then learn a cartwheel first. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I noticed in a cartwheel that I'm not keeping a straight line. The faster I try to do it, the more I curve. I'm guessing one thing I'm doing wrong is that my head should be more tucked. Hurdles I've only done a few times before. I took a new video with cartwheels, and cartwheels/roundoffs from a power hurdle (this seems like the simplest hurdle to start with - do you agree) ? Other types of hurdle are more complicated and tend to mess up my form even more... At the momentl, it seems I'm still having trouble getting more speed even with the hurdle. I'll keep practicing. Refinement of those earlier progressions is going to take you much further in the end. Cartwheel and Free Handstand are covered in great detail within those courses. Not to mention, you will have access to our complimentary video review service with the course! You can submit footage of specific progressions within the course for more detailed feedback. Work on your handstand. You need to be completely extended and there is some way for you to get there. In order to not build bad habits I suggest you discontinue tumbling for now unless you find a good coach who actively can correct you. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
