Hip Impingement

Hey guys!

I have an annoying pain in the front section of my right hip. It's not a constant thing but sometimes happens when I do anything that involves getting the femur and the pelvis bone close to each other. Things like the following:

Jefferson curls, Deadlifts, Squats, etc.

How can I fix this hip impingement (found out it's also called FAI?)?

Thanks,

Sivan

HI Sivan, generally speaking it  can be 2 things:

-anterior hips capsule tightness;

-psoas bursa impingement.

When 2 possible cases are presented you need to check a physiotherapist in order to understand the problem.

Alessandro is THE coach for these things, so definitely get it checked out to know what's going on in there. I had a similar feeling and thought it was just an overly tight hip flexor. Turned out that a weak glute was causing it, so stretching the hip wasn't going to fix it. A good physical therapist is invaluable!

I had same kind of problem, it was diagnosed as FAI and turned out to be also minor tears on the labrum and the cartilage of the hip joint.

Jennifer what glute was weak? was the weak glute the same side of the impingement? or the other side?

Hi Sivan, the glute medius was weak. Also turns out the piriformous wasn't playing nice either. Both on the same side as the pinched hip flexor sensation. Kind of crazy to hear the glute is weak when I love heavy squats in my rotation fairly regularly!
