Joachim Hecht
So my girlfriend dislocated her shoulder a few weeks ago. Doctor said it's all right to start physical training again. My girlfriend told me, that it happend like two times or so that her arm popped out again all painless and doctor said that's a "normal" thing. Now I need some exercises that may help her to stabilize the shoulder again! We will slowly work towards healthy shoulder function Thanks for your help! Nick Murray
Dislocation is not "normal". There are three things to consider: * was the cause an accident or trauma? Enough force can dislocate a shoulder, especially if your girlfriend was performing a dynamic movement. * is there a genetic problem (shallow socket or incomplete labrum, maybe insufficiency of the rotator cuff). This can make her more susceptible to dislocation. * is there a neuromotor problem? Some people can voluntarily dislocate their shoulders and reduce (put them back in place), sometimes without damage or pain. This group can be very hard to treat, as, even after stabilisation surgery, some of them still find a movement strategy that dislocates the shoulder. So, your girlfriend needs to be evaluated properly by a physio who has experience in shoulder problems.
Alessandro Mainente
Hi Joachim, i'm sorry to hear the problem of your girlfriend BUT the web forum is not the place to ask guidance for this problem. absolutely no. Nobody here knows the condition of your girlfriend's shoulders, the recovery and rehab must be revisited with a specialist in a face to face meeting. Joachim Hecht
Hey guys, thanks for your guidance! I'm not one that searches medical information online! Just some more information for you: The accident happened while surfing. The HOW is actually a mystery as my girlfriend said that it happened just by "slapping" the water when falling of her board. Anyways... She was with a physio for a few weeks and now therapy is over. The "popping out" was not really a new dislocate but it gave her a strange feeling in the shoulder. Some light neural damage from right after the accident is gone. Now she can move her arm like before the accident. But maybe there is some experience in "stabilizing" shoulders? Anyways we will ask her therapist again
Alessandro Mainente
Absolutely. all the rotators must be strengthened both internal and external rotators plus muscles which held the scapulae in place like rhomboid, trapezius in all the pieces and serratus anterior.
