Longshanks
So far in planche development I've just been doing nothing but planche leans with my feet on a chair to keep my body parallel. Just get my hands to hip level and thats my static hold. Shoulder strength has been my achiles heel due to previous injuries so thats why I havent even tried any dynamic pushing yet. I'm thinking of trying the same thing on rings as a next progression up (again with my feet on a chair so my body's paralell and I'm strengthening the correct range of the joint) . Has anyone ever tried this and/or had any luck with it? My hope is that if I can hold a 60s planche lean on the rings with body parallel then the jump to planche tuck should be a lot less severe. Nick Van Bockxmeer
probably stating the obvious but it is MUCH tougher on the elbows...
braindx
Yep, tougher on the elbows but a good stimulus.Makes it much harder. To get straddle planche on rings all I did was do leans and rings pseudo planche pushups. All of the rest of the strength training came from basic work with handstands and other full body movements.I would go with 2-3 reps of 4-8 second leans. Then do 2-3 total sets of that.If you do longer leans > 20s they'll be more metabolic... not as much strength development.

Sounds like its a much harder exercise then I'd realised if it prepared you for the straddle?
Blairbob
If you work pseudo planche pushups on rings, you are effectively working the planche lean at the beginning and end of the movement if you are doing it correctly. Btw, it might just be me or the mats, but trying to do prone pushup front support to pike press with feet on ball and rings was a failure.
