I'll probably try to watch some of the recorded but I will be working this weekend at the State Fair. My friend asked me yesterday if I wanted to come down and I was very tempted as I've been the past 2 years. However, I didn't think it was gonna be the same besides having other reasons, ya know.

I tried to watch the SW regional recorded and fell asleep (I had been tired) as it probably bored me to death.

It will be interesting to see Mikko vs a renewed Khalipa and maybe any other underdog.

Quite a few ex gymnasts in this one, especially on the women's side. Should be interesting.

I have to agree, the SW regional was kinda boring to watch (the WODs were not that exciting and it took way to long).

But seeing what they are up to this year i have to say that it looks very promising that this one will kick ass.

I will be watching the entire single athlete events. I finished watching the first workout 9-7-5 of muscle-ups and 135lb snatch. Go Speal! It was interesting also to see these athletes who can clean 250lbs and deadlift 500lbs struggle with muscle ups and get so fatigued by the muscle up that a light snatch for them became exceedingly difficult. It was also interesting to see Speal, someone who has clearly spent more time on bodyweight stuff then almost all other athletes, own the muscle up and the snatch (which for Speal was almost his bodyweight). The rest of the weekend will be interesting. I would really like to see more focus on moving the body then moving external load so that there is more of a balance between metcon, gymnastics, and weightlifting. Usually it's very metcon weightlifting with very little gymnastics.

I don't know if anyone else has been following the Games but man they are so entertaining this year. So much more gymnastic moves... muscle ups, ring handstand pushups, pullups, rope climbs, and you could maybe even argue the wall climbs/obstacle course fall into that category as well. The sandbag move workout was badass. Finally they put some real world tasks into the games. Fun to watch this year. games2010.crossfit.com

Yep, watching right now.

Great workouts, great athletes.

The "real world" workouts are really fun to watch.

But I was somewhat surprised by some of the athletes XR HSPU performance. Seems like they didn't do their homework.

I wonder how atrocious they will be. I will catch up though. I missed it all weekend.

They won the Affiliate Competition this year.

Adam, the owner of CFFV as well as a competitor on the team, was one of the attendees at the GB seminar last May.

Thats probably why they nailed the rope climb muscle up workout. They were super quick and have probabaly been training it lots with great progressions.

Adam dabbled a little bit with gymnastic-body style workouts, and his gym has rings and 25-foot ropes that see frequent use.

More importantly, he and his team are very strong!

He did, for an example of his work capacity, all the named "Girl" WODs in one day, this year on New Year's Day, alphabetically (i.e. Angie, Barbara, Cindy, Diane, Fran, Helen, etc), starting at 6 a.m. and finishing at 6 p.m.

He originally started doing the GB WODs with me last January. We would finish a ring circuit, he would say, "Let's do Angie," we would finish that, I would lie down and he would row a 2K.

Strong dude.

(He was still challenged by many of the movements at that seminar.)

Chapeau to CFFV.

Adam, doesn't ring a bell unfortunately. I'm so bad with names. I can remember maybe a handful and most of those I know online or from before.

Blair,

This was the May 2009 seminar.

I know Adam and I believe Ryan, the other guy on his team, were able to knock out the muscle-ups because neither of them require a false-grip.

This came out in an article following up the 2010 CrossFit Games. Of specific interest was this quote about ex-gymnast Camille Leblanc Bazinet

"Canadian Camille Leblanc-Bazinet was virtually

unknown coming to the Games after finishing fourth in

her regional. In the first heat of the first event, Camille

became an instant hit as the dynamic athlete from

Quebec ripped out nine unbroken muscle-ups with

a powerful gymnastic kip. Indeed, it turned out that

Camille is a former gymnast who has trained muscleups

with a 20-lb. vest. That strength came in handy

when pull-ups, knees-to-elbows, pistols and handstand

push-ups turned up. I caught up with Camille on Day 3,

and she told me she had been dared to try CrossFit after

a few drinks at a party. She showed up at a CrossFit box

a short time later and beat everyone there, but coach

Alexandre Bureau wasn’t ready to let it go to her head.

“I think my coach, when I come back, will finally say I’m

good,†she said with a smile. Leblanc-Bazinet has a twin

and a mother who can do 18 pull-ups, but “no one in my

family wants to challenge me.â€

Interesting that an ex-gymnast, never done CrossFit, and I would assume any or very little weightlifting, does it the very first time and is better than everyone in her gym. Then goes on to place 1st in her sectional qualifications, 4th in her regional and 9th overall in less than a year. Goes to show how well gymnastic strength, coordination, balance, etc. transfers over to other athletic endeavours. Not only that but I doubt she was doing anything close to what Coach Sommer programs for his athletes during her gymnastic training so can you imagine what his athletes could do with CrossFit? It does say she did weighted muscle ups but Coach Sommer seems to be the only one doing in depth physical preparation. I would assume that one of Coach Sommer's kids could have even better success than Camille in less than a year.

Become a gymnast, become good at everything. No other sport or training modality offers that.
