Dip Progression Question

Is it okay to move from dips on the parallel bars to ring dips? I had trouble with the russian dips, so I decided to move on to the ring dips. I can do ring dips with a slow controlled descent and push back up into the support hold with the rings turned without swinging the legs, which came as a surprise, seeing as I can't even do a single Russian Dip. I did 4 sets of 3 reps with about 3 seconds at the bottom and 5 seconds at the top. Should I go ahead and stick with ring dips, or should I keep working on Russian dips or go into the single bar variations ? Thanks in advance for any tips.

Ring Dips and Russian Dips are different animals.

If regular PB dips are no problem then its fine to progress to XR Dips, however you ALSO need to keep working on Russian Dips as they are crucial for working the transition part of the Muscle Up.

Its perfectly fine to use bands for assistance at first, i'm still using them.

One of the real tricks of russian dips is how wide you set the bars. To some degree, they are easier when set closer together. Give that a try.

I have been practicing Russian Dips for the last two months, and now I can do a full controlled negative, but I can only push back up if i stop halfway thru the dip. I don't really have a choice for the distance between bars since I use the parallel bars at the park, but I'm making progress 8)

How are the assistance bands placed? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.
