Aushion Chatman
So today is day two of my weekly adult gymnastics class in San Diego. The Coach is good, there's only about 4-5 people that ever show up so he splits time between all the practitioners pretty well...and he runs us through drills as a group unless you really want to work on something in particular. That being the case it really is more of an "open gym" atmosphere, you could spend the two hour session sucking your thumb and no one would bother you.So I'm trying to organize the opportunity to get the most out of it. Like I said it's 2 hours with decent instruction and watchful eyes. It's all floor stuff/trampoline/spring board and they have some domes for pommel training. My thoughts are to pick some goals -Initially:Press to handstandFront TuckBack TuckHandspringsAnd then program back from there...I'll do some warm-up then work the press to handstand first.Follow that with some tumbling, cartwheels, round-off workAfter that I think I'd go into the handsprings starting with front handsprings on trampoline and then work those to the floor...then start working the back handspring (should I work on both at the same time?)then progress to Front Tuck, I'll probably do some on trampoline or spring board first, then start trying to get them on the ground. Once I'm comfortable with Front Tucks I'll progress to Back Tucks...again should I just work on both at the same time?I'll probably cap off the session with some handstands, pirouettes, walking on hands, etc and then stretch.should I break this down more, is there other floor/trampoline/pommel/spring board stuff that is basic level stuff that I should work on?? Blairbob
Ask them to teach what a flyspring is on tramp. You should probably learn this before a front tuck. You can train front handsprings from a lunge at the same time as flyspring. For front tuck, I would ask them to show you something called a seat drop, doggie drop to handstand. From there seat doggie flip to back, flip to seat, and eventually work flipping to stand out of there. You could also work flipping into the pit but I wouldn't reccomend it unless you are already there to stand on tramp. You can train front/back handsprings at the same time. Same with front and back tucks. My only issue is about proper progression of a back tuck. I reccomend asking you to teach a backward peanut roll or backward pullover on tramp. I think you should learn a flyspring before back handspring but if they octagons/barrels you could work a lot of those. Being able to do flyspring before handsprings is more about awareness upside down in the air. Pommel horse. Straddle swings and stride swings. Play with bucket circles. A stride swing starts with one leg in front and back in between the pommels. Swing the back leg as high as you can as the front leg will swing back. Work on keeping the rhythm. Here's a stride swing. http://www.crossfit.com/cf-affiliates/j ... anPH_b.jpghttp://drillsandskills.com/skills/pig/ Parallel Bar. work on basic swings. High bar...basic swings, casting toward handstand. From a support, pike your legs in front of the bar, lean over it, then swing legs behind and up towards HS. Rings, you know what to do already, Aushion. Vault...ask for some vault progressions. It's kind of ridiculous to describe these in text. If you want progressions, well just ask and I will post complete event progressions on CF or here. I've thought about it anyways and done some impromptu ones on CF>
Aushion Chatman
Thanks for the response Rob, I worked on what you said flyspring first on trampoline which was good. I spent the bulk of the night on front handsprings and front tucks...I think my front tuck is decent now...I want to get it standstill, but I think that may come next Thurs.the front handspring is rocky, I bend at the knees on the way over so I kill some momentum.I guess they don't have a mushroom I thought I saw one last week, so no pommel practice for me...he said they may be getting a pommel soon though...it's a relatively new gym, with mainly little girl students. Blairbob
Ahh. I know some good men's gyms down there but no idea exactly where you are. I only know them by rep but not by location. Yeah, the tucking over with knees is pretty natural in front handsprings. Wow, I went to adult gymnastics class and my neck is sore. All the tumbling. A bucket rig can be set up easy enough at home.
