Onyx Dragon
How can I get the hip rotation down in circles?Anyone know some exercises to better understand the hip rotation?Heres a link about it but can't seem to understand the hip movement.http://homepage.mac.com/samsplace15/...m/mushroom.htmI understand to turn your hips the opposite way to spin but when I try I can't seem to do it right.I was thinking theirs probably an exercise that spins the hips the opposite way to get the hang of it. (Something other than circles)
braindx
Your body is ALWAYS face forward. So if your hips are not pointing forward DIRECTLY you are off. If you're going counterclock:3 oclock the left hip rotates underneath where the left hand was9 oclock the right hip rotates underneath where the right hand wasClockwise.. 9 just comes before 3.Basically what I tell the guys trying to learn is:1. your hands stay in the same place (no spindle/mooring)2. hips ALWAYS face forward. If I can see the side of your legs you're probably turning the hips too slowly. TURN and COUNTERTURN.3. Stay extended w/ no piking as it kills the circle at 1/2 or 3/44. Stay tight; much easier to circle without having to balance out wildly flailing limbsWalk through the positions SLOWLY. Before I allow any attempts I force them to walk through the positions correctly multiple times otherwise it's just flailing around like you're probably experience. Horrible for motor patterns. Blairbob
Seems Sam webpage is down. Check out Jim's guide at beastskills.com on circles. Another drill if you can do it is a hanging body circle. It works better on rings but can be done on a bar. Simply hang from the rings and swing your hips around till you can swing from your torso. Focus on the hips being turned over at a 1/3 and turning back at 2/3.

Gregor
I teach a little bit diffrent about hip rotation.FIRST PART1. I teaching rotation a bit earlier--->when the boy rise the first hand, he starts with a rotation.2. When the boy puts his first hand on the surface (mushroom, pomel/s, flor), the rotation must be already finished3. now at the moment when he puts his hand on the surface (hips are already turned), he starts pushing with firts hand in circle rotation and with the same time gymnast is forcing his heels backSECOND PART4. Now gymnast rises second hand and add some hip rotation with finnish on hand placing moment5. then with same time, he starts pushing his "hips forward and in rotation" with "hand pushnig in to the circle"That's only my point of wiew and my style!!!!
