Gymnastics Training Plan

Hello,

I wanted to know what peoples weekly training plans are. Here is how I schedule my gymnastic workouts:

Sunday - off

Monday - tumbling (floor tumbling, tumble track, trampoline, etc.)

Tuesday - high bar, rings, + one arm pull up practice

Wednesday - off

Thursday - tumbling

Friday - pummel horse, parallel bars, + planche work

Saturday - either off or whatever I feel like doing

In short this work out to be:

Sun - off

Mon - tumbling

Tue - strength

Wed - off

Thur - tumbling

Fri - strength

Sat - option

In addition I have a few other moves I am working on that does not fall into any gymnastic category. This includes, Air flares and one arm pull ups.

Rational:

-I prefer to do my tumbling before my strength days because I find it hard to tumble safely when your muscles are very soar from rings, pummel, etc.

-Two days a week of strength may not seem like a lot, but I am a 140lb 5 foot 11 skinny hard gainer and I found that training too much in one area diminishes my progress. (I also read about this in beyond brawn)

What is your training week like? Or if it is not a 7 day week that is fine too. Please explain it.

And if you have any comments or suggestions about mine, I would be glad to hear them.

Thanks guys.

Well, it has depended on how much time I had and of course it's been different for my training guys.

Last year I did M-F, but W was a light day where I only did trampoline where and way more HS stuff and stretching. I did other strength training or rowing on Sa/Su or basketball but never really any gym stuff besides DB straight arm strength work.

MTuThF was basically WU, floor basics, mobility, basic planks/hang, L work. If I was lively, I tumbled/vault and then worked on SR, maybe some PB. I rarely ever did any HB or PH. Then SSC FSP+FBE. Roughly 2.5-3 hours long.

By Sa/Su, I didn't really feel like doing any gymnastics even if I coached on Sa, only doing what might be necessary for classes or parties (back flips for kids). Occasionally, Sunday I might work out and play sometimes with what few collegiate team came in (there was one couple who came in a lot but during their season they rarely came). Sometimes, the club worked out on Sundays as well.

Oh I forgot about vault. I basically treat that as tumbling. And yeah, trampoline is almost an everyday thing.

You use a lot of SR, PB, HB, PH etc. abbreviations all of which I do not know (new to forums).

They stand for the pieces of men's apparatus

SR = Still Rings (Just normal rings)

PB = Parallel Bars (also shortened to P-bars)

HB = High Bar

PH = Pommel Horse

This post on WOD acronyms should help you get used to the common abbreviations we use here.

Welcome to the forums :)
