Keep Training Sacred
Oftentimes our lives are anything but organized and focused. Between work, school, travel, or family, there are always multiple issues competing for our attention. Too often, unfortunately, the average trainee carries this hurried lack of focus into the gym as well: skipping a warm-up, loitering between sets, and giving subpar effort throughout the workout.
Luckily, there is another way. "Keep training sacred," Coach Christopher Sommer says. "This means that everything in the gym should be performed with your utmost passion, effort, and integrity." Enter the gym with a detailed plan of exactly what you will execute at each step along the way. Keep the unnecessary chatter and socializing to a minimum, and stay focused on the task at hand.
When training chin-ups, for example, you should have absolutely zero doubt in your mind about the quality of the work you are performing. The moment you have to ask, "Is my chin over the bar?" you should already know the answer is, "Pull higher!" If you truly make each and every rep count when mastering chin-ups, then your learning curve when attempting rope climbs will be that much shorter.
This obsessive drive for perfection will carry over into other aspects of your life as well. First you demand excellence from yourself in the gym, and sooner rather than later you will be seeking higher standards from both yourself and those around you outside of the gym as well. Keep training sacred, and enjoy the positive results!
